Rescue Me ID: 14-12-15-00359Jax and DJ (male)

Chesapeake Bay Retriever    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

I have 2 Chesapeake Bay Retrievers that I need to re-home. Jax (on the left) is 3 1/2 years old, and DJ (on right) is 2 years old. I live at an RV resort and can no longer keep my dogs. I really want these guys to stay together as they are best friends!!! They are both awesome dogs that love water, going for car rides, playing ball (or just playing), hanging out on a boat and camping. Jax has been de-barked (sort of sounds like a seal when he barks), and DJ had an accident when he was a puppy and sustained some mild neurological damage which causes him to be a little clumsy at times. They both love the water and swimming, although DJ ... (Read More)must be in a life jacket as his hind end sinks. Both know basic commands, sit, down, wait, come, go potty and are crate trained. They generally get along well with other dogs but can be a little too playful around smaller dogs. They love to play ball, although Jax is the more energetic than DJ. Given a chance, DJ would love to crawl up in a lap and just snuggle. Both are current on all their vaccinations and healthy. They have spent occasional visits at pet hotels and have done well. These guys would flourish in a home with children that are older than toddlers as they are both between 80-90 lbs. and could accidentally knock really small children over. The decision to re-home my 'boyz' has not been an easy one!!! Jax is a vocal guy who always has something to say, which, doesn't make some of the winter visitors at the RV park very happy. I will continue to find a way to keep my pack together, but in the interim, if another pack wants a couple of new members, I will let them go. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Chesapeake Bay Retriever in Arizona
Chesapeake Bay Retriever Dogs can make good pets in Arizona if they match your IifestyIe. The Chesapeake Bay Retriever, or Chessie, is a friendly, smart, medium sized breed. Chessies like to have their own way and can be a bit slow to obedience. Owners should be firm authority figures with experience training strong willed dogs. Chessies are wonderful with children. The Chesapeake Bay retriever is more aggressive than other retrievers, especially with other dogs, and needs to be thoroughly socialized. Chessies like to be outside and do well with a decent sized yard or some land.

Chesapeake Bay Retrievers are descended from Newfoundland Dogs rescued from a shipwreck in 1807 and bred with local retrievers. A Chessie can retrieve 200 ducks in a single day from freezing water. The coat of a Chessie is nearly waterproof.
