Chesapeake Bay Retriever    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

My name is Omi. I'm a six year old male Chesapeake Bay Retriever (CBR). I am neutered, have a brown/red coat and people tell me I have beautiful amber eyes. Other than my initial time at a shelter as a puppy, I have been with one family who has taught me basic and some advanced commands. I have many CBR characteristics including needing regular physical activity, which is great because I love going for walks! I am very loyal and like to spend time close to my owners. I'm not a big fan of water. I'm very bright, well-behaved and house trained. I interact best with adults and older children. I get along well with other dogs. My favorite things ... (Read More)are walks, romping around the dog park and rides in the car! If you are interested in adopting Omi, please contact Dan Lane at the phone and email below.     CJ is a lover! He is very loyal but does have some separation anxiety. He would do well in a home where he is the only dog and where his new owner will be home or can be near him. CJ had a rough first year of life. He was in several foster homes and shelters after he failed a service dog training program. (We have his AKC papers)He has been with us for 3 years but has never warmed up to our other Chessie. He is very good one-on-one! Hoping he will find his forever home soon!

PIease Read Before Adopting a Chesapeake Bay Retriever in Colorado
Chesapeake Bay Retriever Dogs can make good pets in Colorado if they match your IifestyIe. The Chesapeake Bay Retriever, or Chessie, is a friendly, smart, medium sized breed. Chessies like to have their own way and can be a bit slow to obedience. Owners should be firm authority figures with experience training strong willed dogs. Chessies are wonderful with children. The Chesapeake Bay retriever is more aggressive than other retrievers, especially with other dogs, and needs to be thoroughly socialized. Chessies like to be outside and do well with a decent sized yard or some land.

Chesapeake Bay Retrievers are descended from Newfoundland Dogs rescued from a shipwreck in 1807 and bred with local retrievers. A Chessie can retrieve 200 ducks in a single day from freezing water. The coat of a Chessie is nearly waterproof. The Chessie is the mascot of the University of Maryland.
