|Rescue Me ID: 16-06-26-00361Watson (male)|
Watson was rehomed to us. The owner was a young female that found this male dog to be to much to handle. He had been abused by her roommate while in the kennel. He has been through obedience classes and done well. He is very good at catching Frisbees in mid air and returning. Knows sit, down, shake, sit pretty, drop and others. When we took him in he would not enter the kennel with out a fight, growling and snapping. He will now enter the kennel and lay down so that the kennel door can be closed. He also feared sticks, broom handles, but this has also disappeared. He loves to cuddle and become part of the family after he has gained your trust. I do have one concern, that I have not been able to work with him on ~ if someone NEW enters through a door. He will nip at there hands and/or bit them. We have not had time to work with this behavior and we always have him kennel when someone enters the house. My husband and I love him and would be willing to keep him, but I work with Service Dogs for Autistic Children and I do not have the right environment to keep him. (Less)

Chesapeake Bay Retriever Dogs can make good pets in Minnesota if they match your IifestyIe. The Chesapeake Bay Retriever, or Chessie, is a friendly, smart, medium sized breed. Chessies like to have their own way and can be a bit slow to obedience. Owners should be firm authority figures with experience training strong willed dogs. Chessies are wonderful with children. The Chesapeake Bay retriever is more aggressive than other retrievers, especially with other dogs, and needs to be thoroughly socialized. Chessies like to be outside and do well with a decent sized yard or some land.
